Details:

  1. I’m Sorry

Written in 2012, this song is about when you realise you don’t measure up to other people’s expectations of you. They get angry, disappointed, and shit all over you when you don’t behave how they think you should behave. The song’s full title, ‘I’m Sorry I’m Not Your Perception Of Me’, is a serious song – and, of course, I’m not really sorry. The overarching message is: be yourself in this life, unapologetically.

  1. Runaway

This was inspired by the sci-fi television series, ‘Stargate SG-1’, and the character Vala Mal Doran. I absolutely love this sci-fi character – she’s so carefree and afraid to commit to anyone. So naturally, I wrote a song about her! I titled it ‘Runaway’, and it’s about telling people to keep away from yourself, or telling herself to keep away from herself. This is a standard pop-rock tune with a heavy dark feel.

  1. Black Dirt

I penned this song in 2013, lifting its title from Pearl Jam’s ‘Black’ and ‘Dirt’ by Alice In Chains. These were two songs a guy told me to listen to (to this day I’m not sure if he was trying to tell me something…) This is an acoustic song in a Dm minor tuning. It’s pretty dark and weird, and I vibe with it. We’ll see where this one goes.

  1. Don’t blow it, I’m not on fire

This is a fun song, ironically born out of a hideous breakup with a guy that I should never have been with. I did’t want to write a revenge song, just an honest song, but one with adult humour! This isn’t a rock tune – it might even become a dance track. It’ll bring me joy to get it out there in the universe, though. When I hit the open mic circuit with this song in 2017, the reactions were hilariously mixed: people either cried with laughter or wanted to kill me!

‘Psycho Killer’ by Talking Heads & ‘Shitlist’ by L7

The last two tracks are covers – which is rare for me, as I normally prefer to do my own thing in music. However, I’m just itching to bring out the weirdness of these amazing songs and perform my own slowed-down, fingerstyle version.
